Cred AI Credit Card and Unicorn Card Review From the Cardholder Agreement
The cred.ai Unicorn Card is a Visa credit card issued by WSFS Bank and run by cred.ai, paired with a cred.ai deposit account. Its agreement lists no annual fee, a 16.01% variable purchase APR, a $500 minimum credit line and late fees up to $25. Every purchase freezes the same amount in your deposit account, and cred.ai pays the card off automatically, so it behaves like a debit card that reports as credit. The no-fee, no-interest guaranty only holds while automatic payments stay on. It helps a thin file. It does nothing about late payments or collections already on your report, which is the part CreditPal explains.

Cred.ai figures were read on 6 October 2026 from cred.ai, its legal and FAQ page, the VISA Unicorn Credit Card Cardholder Agreement and the cred.ai Services Agreement it links. OpenSky, Self and Kikoff prices come from our reviews of each, read off their own sites in late September and early October 2026. Card terms can change, so confirm the rate and limit in your offer before you accept it.
How the cred.ai Unicorn Card works
You get two things: a deposit account at Wilmington Savings Fund Society (WSFS Bank) and the Unicorn Card, a Visa credit card issued by the same bank. Cred.ai is the servicer that sits between them. Its own FAQ describes its role as "agent and servicer for the Bank."
The mechanics are in the Services Agreement. Every time you use the card, "The Bank will set aside Deposit Account funds in the amount of each authorized" transaction, called Frozen Funds, and "you may not withdraw Frozen Funds" or use them for anything except paying the card. Cred.ai also caps what you can spend at a Safe Spend Amount it calculates from your balances. In practice you are spending money you already have, and the card reports it as credit.
Then cred.ai pays the card for you. A Grace Period Payment clears the statement balance before the due date so no interest is charged, and Clean-Up Payments on the last day of each billing cycle bring the balance down "to a level that Cred.ai believes will help optimize your credit score." That is the utilization trick behind the product: the bureaus see a credit line with a small balance and on-time payments.
Cred AI credit card fees, APR and credit limit
The Important Disclosures at the top of the cardholder agreement are the authority here. Annual fee: None. Transaction fees: None. Purchase APR: 16.01%, which "will vary with the market based on the Prime Rate." Cash advance APR: 24.99%. Late payment and returned payment fees: up to $25 each. The minimum payment is the greater of $25 or 2% of the balance plus interest, fees and any past due amount.
The same page says that if you are approved "you will receive a credit card account with a minimum credit line of $500." Cred.ai does not publish a maximum, and the bank can change the limit at its discretion.
You should never see the APR or a late fee while the guaranty applies. The rates still matter, because they are what you owe the day automatic payments are off.
The cred.ai guaranty and when it stops
The guaranty is the headline promise: "you never pay fees or interest." The Services Agreement sets out what it covers. If you are ever charged interest or a late fee, cred.ai "will pay all such interest charges and late payment fees." And if you cannot repay the balance, on request cred.ai "will pay the Enabled Card Issuer from its own funds the amount" you are unable to pay.
It comes with two conditions. First, automatic payments must stay on: "If you opt out of Automatic Payment Services, the cred.ai Guaranty will no longer apply." Second, it does not apply to conduct cred.ai "reasonably suspect[s] may be fraudulent or an attempt to game" the services, a judgment the company makes. If you prefer to pay your card yourself, or move money in ways that drain the deposit account, you are back to a 16.01% card with $25 late fees.
Does cred.ai do a credit check?
Many reviews say the Unicorn Card needs no credit check. The cardholder agreement, which is the document that binds you, says otherwise: "Based on our evaluation of your credit report and other factors, if approved for a Unicorn Card, you will receive a credit card account." Its eligibility clause adds "minimum income, residency, age, credit quality and other requirements," and you authorize the bank to obtain "credit bureau reports" when you apply and later.
The agreement does not say whether that is a hard or a soft inquiry, and cred.ai's site does not either. Treat it as a real credit application. The same agreement says the bank will "furnish information concerning your Account" to "consumer reporting agencies" without naming which ones, so check all three of your reports about two months after opening.
Who the Unicorn Card suits, and who it does not
It suits someone with a thin file and a steady paycheck who wants a revolving account on their report without the risk of running up debt. Because purchases are pre-funded and paid off automatically, it is hard to get into trouble with it, and the reported balance stays low. Cred.ai also offers a separate cred.ai Pro app, which its store listing describes as "available exclusively to employees and members of select large organizations and employers," so the public card is the one most people can get.
It does not suit someone whose score is low because of what is already on the file. A new card adds one well-behaved account. It does not touch a collection, a charge-off or a run of late payments, and those cost far more points than a short history does. If you are not sure which situation you are in, our credit builder apps comparison sets out the full field and the OpenSky credit card review covers the standard secured card route.
CreditPal answers that question before you open anything. It connects read-only, explains in plain English which factors are costing you the most points, and lets you simulate opening a new card to see what it would actually do to your score. From $7 a month. It opens no accounts, lends nothing and does not file disputes.
Straight answers
Questions people ask before they buy
Is the cred.ai Unicorn Card a real credit card?
Yes. It is a Visa credit card issued by WSFS Bank, with cred.ai acting as servicer. Purchases freeze the same amount in your cred.ai deposit account and cred.ai pays the card automatically, so it works like a debit card while reporting as a credit account.
Does cred.ai do a hard credit check?
The cardholder agreement says approval is "based on our evaluation of your credit report and other factors" and requires minimum income and credit quality. It does not state whether the inquiry is hard or soft, so treat the application as a credit check rather than relying on reviews that say there is none.
What is the cred.ai credit limit?
The agreement promises a minimum credit line of $500 if you are approved. Cred.ai does not publish a maximum, and what you can actually spend is capped by the Safe Spend Amount it calculates from the money in your deposit account.
Does the cred.ai card have fees or interest?
The agreement lists no annual fee and no transaction fees, a 16.01% variable purchase APR, a 24.99% cash advance APR and late or returned payment fees up to $25. The cred.ai guaranty pays any interest or late fees, but only while automatic payments stay switched on.
Does cred.ai report to all three credit bureaus?
Cred.ai and most reviews say it builds credit with the bureaus. The cardholder agreement only says the bank furnishes account information to "consumer reporting agencies" without naming them, so pull your Experian, Equifax and TransUnion reports about two months after opening to confirm.
Can cred.ai fix bad credit?
No. It adds a new on-time account and keeps the reported balance low, which helps a thin file. It does not remove late payments, collections or charge-offs. CreditPal shows which of those are costing you the most points and what to do first.
