Jetty Credit is a rent reporting service that your property signs up for, not you. It reports rent payments to Equifax, Experian and TransUnion each month. At buildings financed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac it is often free and residents are enrolled automatically with the right to opt out. At other buildings it is a paid subscription whose price Jetty does not publish. Either way, a missed rent payment can end your enrollment, and it can take up to three months for the account to show on your reports.
We read Jetty's property page for Jetty Credit, the Jetty Credit Terms and Conditions (effective February 5, 2024), Jetty's launch announcement and Fannie Mae's own program announcement on 13 October 2026, so the quotes below come from those documents. CreditPal is a credit coaching tool, not a rent reporting service, and we earn nothing whether you stay enrolled in Jetty Credit or not.
How much does Jetty Credit cost?
It depends on who is paying, and Jetty sells it two ways. Jetty's FAQ for properties says: "Properties with existing Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac loans may be eligible to get Jetty Credit for free. Jetty Credit is also available to integrate as a paid subscription for a low monthly fee to residents." There is no dollar figure on any Jetty page we could read, and the Terms only say that "the price will be made clear during the order process."
| Your building | What you pay | How you get enrolled |
|---|---|---|
| Financed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac and in the program | Usually nothing. The program covers the cost for the property | "Residents are enrolled automatically with the option to opt out" |
| Jetty Credit offered as a paid add-on | A monthly subscription, price shown at signup, auto-renewing | "Jetty will invite residents to sign up" |
| Building not working with Jetty | Not available | You would need a service you enroll in yourself |
The free version has a history worth knowing. When Jetty launched the product it said Fannie Mae would "fully subsidize Jetty Credit for one year for properties with existing Fannie Mae loans." Fannie Mae's own announcement of its Positive Rent Payment Reporting program, which started on September 27, 2022, named three approved vendors: "Esusu Financial, Inc., Jetty Credit, and Rent Dynamics." It said Fannie Mae "will cover the costs of collecting and disseminating rent payment data for a 12-month period." Jetty's page now also names Freddie Mac's Renter Credit Building Initiative. So whether yours is free is a question about your landlord's loan and program terms, and the leasing office is the only place that can answer it.
If you are on a paid subscription, the billing terms are standard but worth reading once. It renews automatically "at the stated frequency until you cancel or opt out." A cancellation "will become effective at the end of your current billing period," so there is no partial refund for the month you are in. Jetty can change the fee "on a go forward basis," and it promises to notify you before charging a higher price.
Which credit bureaus does Jetty Credit report to?
All three. The property page says: "Around the middle of each month, we submit a rent-payment file to each major credit bureau: TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax." That puts Jetty on the same footing as RentReporters and Credit Rent Boost and ahead of Rental Kharma, which sends rent to TransUnion and Equifax only.
Two lines in the Terms set expectations. First, "it may take up to three months for rental payment data to appear on credit bureau records." If you are applying for a loan next month, do not count on a Jetty tradeline being there. Second, "a credit freeze does not prevent Jetty from sending data to credit bureaus." A freeze stops the bureaus from releasing your file. It does not stop furnishers like Jetty from adding to it, so you do not need to lift a freeze to be reported.
Being on all three reports is not the same as counting in every score. Rent tradelines count in VantageScore 3.0 and 4.0 and in FICO Score 9 and 10. FICO Score 8, still the most common score in card and auto decisions, does not read rental data, and neither do FICO Scores 2, 4 and 5, which most mortgage lenders still pull. A Jetty tradeline can lift the VantageScore in a free app while the score your lender uses stays where it was.
What happens if you miss a rent payment?
This is the part residents ask about most, and the answer is better than most people fear. Fannie Mae described its program as "a positive-only initiative" and said "renters who miss a payment are automatically unenrolled to preserve their credit standing." Jetty's own Terms keep the same lever: "Jetty also reserves the right to deny service for missed rent payments."
In practice that means a late month ends your reporting rather than landing on your file as a late payment. The trade-off is that you lose the tradeline going forward, and a rent account that stops receiving new months slowly stops helping. If that happens, the cheapest way back is a service you enroll in yourself and control, such as Boom, which finds rent payments in your bank account without involving the landlord.
How do you opt out of Jetty Credit?
Jetty's Terms say it twice: residents "have the ability to 'opt-out' of the reporting services at any time on your account page or by submitting an opt-out request." On a paid subscription, opting out cancels "only future charges," effective at the end of the billing period. On a free, auto-enrolled building, opting out simply stops the reporting.
Before you opt out of a free version, ask what you are giving up. Fannie Mae reported that in the program's first year about 240,000 renters had payments reported, about 23,000 got a credit score for the first time, and renters who already had a score gained an average of 40 points. Those are Fannie Mae's own figures, and they describe the program as a whole rather than Jetty alone. But free, three-bureau, positive-only reporting is about as low-risk as credit building gets. The usual reasons to leave are privacy or a paid fee you did not want, not damage to your score.
Is Jetty Credit legit?
Yes. Jetty is a real company, Jetty National, Inc., best known for Jetty Deposit and Jetty Protect renters insurance, and its site says it has "joined forces with Rhino, now serving over 6 million units." Jetty Credit was one of only three vendors Fannie Mae approved when it launched its rent reporting program. The Terms make clear what it is not: "Jetty Credit does not extend credit to you. Jetty merely reports on the status of your rent payments," and Jetty "is not a credit bureau."
If something on your report looks wrong, the Terms say "Jetty will assist you in investigating the issue upon your request" and that "you may file a dispute directly with credit bureaus." Do both. The bureau dispute starts a legal clock that a company's help desk does not.
Jetty Credit compared with rent reporting you pay for yourself
The real comparison for most residents is not Jetty against another landlord program. It is whether to keep Jetty, or pay for a service you control. Here is how the main options line up on their own published terms.
| Service | Who enrolls | Cost to you | Bureaus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jetty Credit | Your property | Free at many Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac buildings, otherwise an unpublished monthly fee | All three |
| RentReporters | You | $94.95 once, then $10.95 a month or $105 a year | All three |
| Credit Rent Boost | You | $6.95 a month or $49 a year, $59 for past rent | All three |
| Rental Kharma | You | $75, then $8.95 a month | TransUnion and Equifax |
| Boom | You | $60 a year, $25 for past rent | All three |
If Jetty is free at your building, keep it and do not pay for a second service on top of the same rent. Two tradelines for one lease add very little. If you are being invited to a paid Jetty subscription, ask the leasing office for the monthly price before you agree, and compare it with the self-enrolled options above. Our RentReporters review works through the real first-year cost of the most expensive of them, and the rent reporting services comparison covers the rest. Rent reporting is a decision your landlord makes in the same property management software that runs the rent roll, which is why the price you are offered depends so much on the building rather than on you.
Will Jetty Credit actually raise your score?
It depends almost entirely on what is already on your file. Rent reporting does the most for a thin file: no cards, no loans, or a single young account. A new on-time tradeline gives the scoring models something to read, and for some people it is the difference between having a score and not having one.
It does very little when the drag is something else. A 30-day late payment from last year, a collection, or a card balance near its limit all outweigh one more on-time account, and Jetty cannot touch any of them. That is the question CreditPal answers before you pay for anything: connect read-only, and it shows which factors are costing you the most points on each bureau and simulates what an added rent tradeline would do to your actual file. If you are rebuilding after a setback, start with how late payments affect your score, because that is usually the bigger number.
